The New Inn has been in Peggs Green, opposite the former Coleorton No 1 Colliery (California), now the recreation ground, since early 1800s, possibly before. John Tugby was listed as the Inn Keeper of the New Inn on the 1842 census.

Landlords have included the Cox, Jackson and Bradford and Morley families.

In 1972 Tommy and Kathleen McKeefry moved to England from Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland and shortly took over the running of the New Inn. In 1992 Tommy and Kathleen's daughter Tina and husband Martin Kells took over and have run it as a successful local pub ever since with their family working there too.

The interior of The New Inn is decked out with all kinds of memorabilia. Here are some of the walkers after completing a History Walk in September 2022.
