Christmas on the Green 2021

Christmas has been celebrated in Coleorton for 1000 years! This year, on Sunday 28 November, Coleorton Parish Council organised "Christmas on the Green" on Beaumont Green, opposite the Post office on Lower Moor Road. It was a great event, with singing, music, children's activities from Messy Church, craft stalls, mulled wine and mince-pies! Someone even managed to arrange for a seasonal dusting of snow!

Of course, in years gone by, the churches and chapels were central to organising celebrations for the important religious festival. In 2004 St Mary's held a "Christmas Tree festival" decorating the church with over 30 trees sponsored by local organisations, companies and individuals and raising money for a local children's hospice. Over the years the schools have put on nativity plays, decorations and tableau in very creative ways. Some Beaumont family members provided a party and gifts for the school children each year.
