New Lount Colliery produced coal until 1968. There are residents in Coleorton today who worked at Lount Colliery. It was made into a nature Reserve and is run jointly by Leicester County Council and the Coleorton and New Lount Volunteer Group.
In Spring 2017 a "Heritage Trail" was created with a number of information boards along the way explaining the mining that took place and the flora and fauna to look out for in the woods and ponds. Well worth a visit.
